Pistol/Magnum

The Pistol is back baby! For the first time since Halo: CE the pistol can take on almost any weapon the opponent has. The Pistol is currently a 5 shot kill but at this point in the game a lot of people are having trouble getting the job done with less than a clip. Because of the reticule bloom the Pistol does not have great long range accuaracy so stick to it in short-mid range battles.

Assualt Rifle

The Assualt Rifle is certainly not a prominent in Halo Reach as it was in Halo 3 which is nice. In Halo 3 I was always so pissed when I started games off with a measly Assualt Rifle. After the first couple minutes you would get spawned killed by all the guys who got BRs and snipers. Bungie has decided to use the assualt rifle as mainly a secondary weapon in Reach that can be pulled out in close combat situations.

Grenade Launcher

At this point in Halo Reach the Grenade Launcher is by far my favorite weapon. It actually takes a lot of skill to use it because it’s not just a speeding instant kill like the Rocket Launcher. To use the Grenade Launcher you press and hold the shoot button until it gets near your target and then you let go of the trigger. When you let go the grenade explodes. I can actually see this weapon being used in MLG and other competitive game because it’s hard to use and it’s just plain fun!

Rocket Launcher

The Rocket Launcher in Reach is nearly the same as the rockets in Halo 2 and Halo 3. However, at this point in the game there is no doubt that they are a lot more powerful then they used to be. A lot of game critics are calling for them to be nerfed. I guess we will just have to wait and see what bungie decides to do.

Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)

The Designated Marksman Rifle, also known as the DMR, is one of the most versitle weapons in Halo Reach. Many people compare the weapon to the Battle Rifle in both Halo 2 and Halo 3 however there is one key difference. The DMR only shoots 1 shot bursts where as the BR shot 3 shot bursts. Because of this the DMR is much more accurate but also much harder to use. It is now impossible to swipe shots when you have an opponent with no shields. I would compare the DMR to the Carbine of Halo 3 but with a smaller clip size.

Orbital Launch Target Locator

This bad boy was released during the E3 press conference. It may look like a pistol with a screen but it can rain down hell with a click of the button. If you don’t believe me? Check out this video of it in action.

Sniper Rifle

The UNSC Sniper Rifle is once again one of the most powerful weapons in the game. Some said that the Sniper seemed easier to use in Reach then in any of the other Halo games. I thought it seemed a little bit harder to use and getting a head shot was never very easy. I need some more practice with it for sure.

Shotgun

The Shotgun has always been a power weapon in Halo. Reach is no different really. I actually think the Shotty was easier to use in Reach because everything seems to connect better. if it’s not better then the Halo 3 Shotgun then it is for sure better then the H2 Shotgun.

Spartan Laser

 

The Spartan Laser was first introduced in Halo 3. It instantly became one of the most powerful weapons in the game. It could easily take down multiple enemies as well as a few Covie vehicles. The real question is this: If Halo Reach is before Halo 1 then why was the Spartan laser not seen again until Halo 3?

Covenant Weapons

Plasma Pistol

If you have played any of the Halo games you know there isn’t too much to say about the Plasma Pistol. Its sole purpose is to drop enemy shields and help assist a kill. The Pasma Pistol in Reach is the exact same as it was in Halo 3. Lets move on!

Plasma Repeater

The Plasma Repeater in Halo Reach replaces the Plasma Rifle from Halo 3 and the previous Halo games. If you played Halo 2 or Halo 3 you know how crappy the Plasma Rifle was. It was only good in really close spaces and it was just used to drop shields and beat down an opponent. Well, the plasma repeater is a whole new gun! I actually enjoy using it in Halo Reach because there is a really good chance that I can beat someone who is using an Assualt Rifle in a 1v1 battle. The Plasma Repeater has a good chance to be a big time weapon in Reach.

Needler

The Needler has now been featured in every Halo game. The very first time I ever played Halo 1 I picked up the Needler and instantly became in love with both it and the game. I think a lot of fans feel the same way. It may not pack the biggest punch but it sure did a damn good job when it came to taking down that damn Sniper on the top of Beaver Creek back in Halo 2.

Needle Rifle

Bungie finally made a for the Covies that might actually be better than the Humar version. The Needle Rifle is almost the same thing as the DMR but it’s a little less powerful but a little more accurate. During the early stages of the game I really prefer the Needle Rifle over the DMR just because my aim in Reach isn’t quite there yet. I may change my mind later on though.

Plasma Launcher

The Plasma Launcher is a new gun in Reach that we have never seen in another Halo game before. It can shoot up to 4 sticky grenades at once and it has a pretty nice tracking system on it too. I think after the game has been out for a while the Plasma Launcher will be mastered too well and won’t be used for competitive gameplay. However, at this point in the game it’s still a little tricky to use and is still fun.

Focus Rifle

The Focus Rifle takes the place of the Covy Beam Rifle. This isn’t you conventional sniper rifle though. This sniper/gun is used more to drop shields and is actually pretty hard to use. The Focus Rifle reminds me of a supped up sentinel Beam from Halo 2. There is no doubt that this weapon will be one of the main power weapons in Halo Reach.

Fuel Rod Cannon

Bungie finally released the updated Fuel Rod Cannon. So far there have been no clips of this gun being fired but if you have played any of the Halo games you know what to expect. It’s pretty much a green glob of energy that explodes like a rocket when it makes impact. Hopefully Bungie will let us use it in multiplayer for once.

Concussion Rifle

Bungie released images of their newest Covvie weapon; The Concussion Rifle. At this point no footage of the rifle has been released. However, there are a lot of rumors going around that this will be used an Area of Destruction weapon. Meaning it will cause destruction to large areas at a time. Hm, I guess size doesn’t always matter.
